We are all living through an era of rapid change that most of us were totally unprepared for. These changes are leaving a lot of people exhausted and almost overwhelmed with the series of unpredictable events that confront us on a daily basis. What I have realised is that we have just two choices: We either play by the normal rules which will be succumbing to the flesh and living like any ordinary person; or we decide to be one of the non-conformists who welcome uncertainty without fear, knowing that even in uncertain times our Father- GOD is still in charge and His promises remain certain.
Reinventing gemWOMAN during this pandemic has been an epic project. And frankly, an emotional roller coaster for us as we reimagine every single page and every single shoot.
The team has been tasked with bringing forward fresh thinking, reverse thinking, big, bold ideas and a new approach. This issue of the magazine is based on the theme of Fatherhood and we spent time asking, ‘Do we have to do it the same way as we always have?’ More often than not we concluded that we don’t.
This new Fatherhood issue of gemWOMAN is dedicated to fathers; men who have influenced our lives in various ways.
We’ve made a bolder and braver magazine to celebrate these awesome figures by giving their all-important voices a place to talk about who they are and what they stand for. I am incredibly proud of what the gemWOMAN team has created and curated in the pages that follow, and this issue has shone the spotlight on inspiring people who I hope will provoke stimulating debates.
Our Special Cover personality is no other than Dusin Oyekan. The popular gospel music minister, song-writer and powerful worshipper who has drawn many into the heart of worship through his deeply expressive worship songs speaks on what fatherhood means to him.
This issue also contains a special Fatherhood feature that focuses on three young fathers and their personal takes and experiences of fatherhood.
June 7th was Cancer Survivor Day, so we thought to share a testimony from a cancer survivor who speaks on Surviving Breast Cancer. It is an encouraging piece to many hesitant minds.
